All the stuff on the GM screen
over 2 years ago – Sat, Sep 11, 2021 at 08:51:24 PM

Plenty of people have asked me "what did you put on the back of that GM screen?" Much like the people who asked about the subclasses, the question-askers had no idea that the answer was "just a mountain of stuff!" So instead of listing it all out in excruciating detail, I just decided to show it off here!

It might look like a wall of text, but it's actually a super useful, easily navigable wall of text!

Another point of order: the GM screen that comes in the Starter Kit of Secrets is a laminated cardstock thing -- perfectly functional, but not fancy. The standalone GM screen is 2mm board -- the good stuff you can whack your players with when they misbehave.

Stretch Goals: Siegeball and Taverns
over 2 years ago – Fri, Sep 10, 2021 at 07:10:52 AM

Another stretch goooooooooooooooal! 250K is a colossal milestone and it unlocked a colossal addition to Valda's Spire of Secrets: the game of Siegeball.

As mentioned previously, Siegeball is a game you play within the game of DnD, just using its combat rules and your existing characters. This is for any GM who wants a short diversion from the main campaign in which the players suddenly become professional athletes -- not a huge stretch for the normal superheroics of DnD characters. You can also use it as an entire campaign, running tournaments of games with increasingly skilled and monstrous foes. Here's what's in the Siegeball Appendix:

  • A full list of rules and variant siegeball rules
  • Siegeball weapons and sports gear
  • Eight opposing teams
  • Rules for siegeball arenas, and twenty variant arenas

Next stretch goal on the block is one of the greatest and funniest softcovers we've ever written: Taverns and Tankards, a complete guide to brews, brawls, and bars. We'll talk more about this when we get closer to updating it, but if you've ever wanted a one-stop-shop for rolling up and populating a tavern, comprehensive drinking rules (with magical cocktails), and less-than-sober subclasses and monsters (like the alemental), then this book is for you!

Stay tuned! We've got a lot of great material on the queue for you.

Literally Every Subclass in Spire of Secrets
over 2 years ago – Fri, Sep 10, 2021 at 02:11:51 AM

People have been asking for a list of all the subclass options in this book, perhaps without realizing that this list is pretty gigantic. Regardless, I have just such a list! Brace yourselves for ALL the SUBCLASSES:

Quick Promo: Dungeon Scribe!
over 2 years ago – Tue, Sep 07, 2021 at 10:59:08 PM

First and foremost, I want to assure you that I'm not going to flood our project updates with cross-promotion for different projects -- we're focused on making sure this channel is as informative as possible. However, there's a handful of projects (things I can count on one hand) for which I'd like to sprinkle out promos as the campaign progresses.

Today's quick promo: we're not making magic item cards for the Spire of Secrets, so I want to tell you about a Kickstarter my friend Hos is running for Dungeon Scribe.

Dungeon Scribe: Magical Oddities Decks are 4 Deck Volumes with 200 cards of fresh content for your 5th Edition games. Discover unique fully illustrated oddities with quick reference icons all designed for multiple tiered expansive varieties of play. Grow your table's arsenal, dole out new items with ease, and empower both players and NPCs in bold new ways. Here's a free preview!

If you like what you see, hurry up and pledge before the campaign closes! Oh, and if you pledge, tell Hos that I sent you!

Stretch Goals: Mimic Book of Mimics and Fantasy Sports
over 2 years ago – Mon, Sep 06, 2021 at 05:12:19 PM

Pour a glass, launch fireworks -- we’re at 200K! Huge milestone for any project and we’re cruising toward bigger milestones to come. Keep spreading the word about the Spire of Secrets!

You’ve unlocked the Mimic Book of Mimics, a book that definitely isn’t a mimic. It’s filled with cunning mimics of all shapes and sizes, from the diminutive mock (about as big as a coin or a gem), to the mugger (which prefers to hide as mugs), to the deadly hill-sized bluff (whose name is also a pun, yes.) Is there a statblock for a mimic book in the Mimic Book of Mimics? No, definitely not. Because mimics don’t disguise themselves as books, and even if they did, they wouldn’t hide in plain sight, filling themselves with statblocks about mimics. You’re being paranoid. The Mimic Book of Mimics is available as a softcover and PDF add-on.

Next stretch goal is a doozy! Get ready for Siegeball, the world’s premiere fantasy sports league that you play inside DnD 5e.

Siegeball consists of two towers and a big ball. Hit the ball into the opponent’s tower to knock it over and you win! Use your normal characters and the 5e combat rules: this is a game that lives entirely within DnD. It’s fun and enormously addictive, so don’t be surprised if even the most sports-averse players at your table decide they want to play in a Siegeball tournament bracket for the next campaign.

We’re including this as an appendix within Spire of Secrets for FREE instead of as a standalone, because we think Siegeball is something which should exist in every 5e game, if only as a one or two-session diversion. Comes with its own equipment, enemy players, and rules for arenas. Truly a worthy expansion!
